I am currently reading  'Good Omens', which is an apocalyptic story, jointly written by Sir Terry Pratchett and Neil Gaiman (Of 'Instructions' fame).

As a big fan of Sir Terry I found this book unusually difficult to get into. It is so different to his normal style and, although I could still feel him in the words, it just wasn't what I was expecting.

However, I followed my own rule of giving every book 50 pages and eventually it started to pick up for me.

The footnotes are particularly funny (as is always the case with Sir Terry) but I began, also, to enjoy the touches which clearly came form Gaiman.

All in all I'm looking forward to my bedtime book each night and I would recommend it to very able, mature readers with an understanding of Christian doctrine and a large sense of humour.

    1. What makes you say that it is so funny? How does the writer achieve this,?

    2. It is really funny because the older brother Tim, who is 24 years old can't solve anything, he is not useful at all. Instead, his younger brother Nick who is 14 years old is the one who does the solving in the mysteries. Tim is always getting into trouble or causing chaos.

    3. I have read all Diamond Brothers' Books but Public Enemy Number 2. As a person, Tim is very stupid. As a literary creation, I think he plays the central role in the books by getting himself and Nick into trouble.

  2. I am reading a brilliant book called 'Percy Jackson and the titan's curse'. I like it because of its subtle wit and gripping storyline. I have read the first to books of the series and they have intrigued me to read this book. It is about a boy named Percy who goes on a thrilling quest to save his friend Annabeth after she was taken by a manticore that works for the evil titan which was called Kronos. On Percy's quest, he meets a few Greek gods and a he also diets into some deadly fights that have unpleasant results (they cause Percy and his demigod companions a lot of trouble in the future). I would recommend this book and this entire series for anybody who is into Greeks and fiction. Rick Riordan has written other series like Percy Jackson which are called the Heroes of Olympus and the Kane Chronicles.

    1. Yes, Riordan has written those series and the last three books of Heroes of Olympus actually feature Percy and Annabeth.

  3. I recently finished reading Four by Veronica Roth, which is prequel to the series Divergent.

I found it quite intresting, because Tris Prior (the main character of Divergent) was from a smaller family, but was treated well and had a loving family. However, Four (Tobias Eaton, the main character of Four. His nickname, as later given to him, is Four) comes from an extremely rich family but his father abuses him and his mother ran away (His dad said she died, and hid the real truth from Tobias.)

Tobias is from textbook Abnegation, but later transfers to the brave and daring Dauntless, which, in my opinion, was the best choice for him to escape his father and defend himself. Also, instead of being locked in his room everyday, Four had the chance to make friends and feel free.

I recommend the book 'Four' and the series 'Divergent' (Divergent, Insurgent and Allegiant) to anyone who likes a bit of action and I guess suspense.

  4. My favourite book series of all time is Harry Potter by Joanne Katherine Rowling (JK Rowling) which is, quite obviously, based on a boy named Harry Potter.

Harrys parents were killed by Voldemort, the villan of the story. Voldemort, in attempt to kill Harry, gave him a lightening scar on his forehead. He is sent to live with his aunt, uncle and cousin, the Dursleys. They were muggles (non magical people) and did not plan on telling Harry that he is a wizard.

On Harry's 11th birthday, the gamekeeper of Hogwarts, Rubeus Hagrid, comes to his house and tells him he is a wizard. He gives Harry his first birthday present, a cake with the words 'HAPEE BIRTHDAE HARRY',

Harry goes to Hogwarts, the wizarding school, and he meets Ron Weasley and Hermione Granger (his soon to be best friends) and his worst enemy, Draco Malfoy. Albus Dumbledore is the headmaster, and the four houses are called Gryffindor, Slytherin, Hufflepuff and Ravenclaw. Harry gets sorted into Gryffindor along with his friends - although he was almost sorted into Slytherin.

Voldemort split his soul into seven pieces (Horcruxes), and Harry ends up being one of them. Harry kills Voldemort and later marries Ginny Weasley and has three children with her (James Sirius Potter, Albus Severus Potter and Lily Luna Potter).

I recommend this book to everyone because Harry Potter is the most amazing series I have ever read.

  5. Black Beauty
Not very recently, I have finished reading the book 'Black Beauty'. In my opinion, Black Beauty is an amazing book which, while not having a load of vivid description, has a wondrously emotional storyline to make up for it.

It has an olden touch to it which, I think makes that little bit more special. It brings in heart-warming characters and really pushes in how Black Beauty felt more than any other book I have ever read.

Although, somehow I feel that it needs a tinge of description to boost it higher. Some terms are ancient and I don't understand them which gets in the way of the book's flow because I can't finish the book without relieving my itch to find out what that means. After I find the definition, and start reading again I need to read the last few paragraphs again to jog my memory. This was highly irritating.

I recommend this book to mature readers of 10+ years that like touching stories.

  6. The book I am currently reading is 'Cherry Crush' in the series 'The Chocolate Box Girls' by Cathy Cassidy.

Cherry Crush, is about a young girl who moved to Summerset with her dad to live with her new family. So far this book has been amazing! This is because, it is written in the first person, and when I read it out loud I get to use lots of expression. In addition, before I read the book, I was extremely excited as I had read another book in the chocolate box girls (Summer's Dream)

  7. I'm currently reading a book called ' a MIDDLE SCHOOL story I totally FUNNIEST ' by James Patterson.

This book is amazing and I mean AMAZING (in my opinion)!Once you read the blurb it's instantly hooks you. James's already wrote 5 series! The series I'm reading now is the I Funny series. The other ones are: Middle School series, Treasure Hunters series, House of Robots series and the Daniel X series.

I wanted to read this book is because I read a book from the Middle School series called ' MY BROTHER IS A BIG,FAT LIER' ( I reccomend that book to people who like humour and 7+).

This book is about a boy called Jamie Grimm and he's in a wheelchair. He was going to a Planet's Funniest Kid Comic Contest in Holleywood. Until it got postponed. But then another channel made it carry on. Jamie is on of the finalist against: Chatty Patty, Judy Nazemetz and Antony Guerrero. The prize is for the winning person gets 1,000,000 bucks!!!! It's just crazy.

However, ther's a rumour Jamie Grimm might die of stage fright. SAD.

I reccomend this to people 7+ who like stuff intense and humerous

  9. I just finished reading a book called 'Antidote' by Malorie Blackman
Malorie Blackman is my favourite author and I recommend her books as they are amazing!
My favourite one she has written has to be Antidote or Deadly Dare mysteries!
All her books are very interesting and addicting, they are mainly based on mysteries or adventure of cracking codes.

    1. Hacker by Malorie Blackman is based on this genre and at the end of the book I was thinking Aunt Beth would get away with 7 MILLION POUNDS but due to last minute thinking from Victoria prevented her from doing so.

  10. I have nearly finished a book called The Devil and His Boy by Anthony Horowitz. It includes some violence (which I love) and has many joke which don't make you laugh, but smile.

I have also read The Switch, again by Anthony Horowit, which I reccomend as well. This also has loads of violence. It uses Emotive language and his Diamond Brother books are hilariously funny.

    1. I have also read the Switch. But I don't understand why Finn would break into a house in Mayfair where there would be high levels of security. Luckily he manages to escape but what a risk.

  11. A few months ago, I read a book called "Bloody Tower" by Valerie Wilding, which is about a girl called Tilly/Matilda Middleton who lives in Tudor times and lives inside the bloody tower.

Tilly shares a birthday with Elizabeth Boleyn Tudor, whom she wishes will go on the throne next as Edward Seymour Tudor had fallen ill. Instead Lady Jane Grey gets the throne, but is overtaken by Mary Tudor, therefore leading to many executions.

A long time ago, Tilly's father received a letter from a very important lady and she asked him to give it to a lady. Tilly receives it and realises who it is from and who it is for, and is set out on a mission to give it to her.

I recommend this to anyone who loves history and a little droplet of blood.

  12. I love this poem called 'Why English Is So Hard'.

    WHY ENGLISH IS SO HARD

We'll begin with a box, and the plural is boxes,
But the plural of ox becomes oxen, not oxes.
One fowl is a goose, but two are called geese,
Yet the plural of moose should never be meese.
You may find a lone mouse or a nest full of mice,
Yet the plural of house is houses, not hice.

If the plural of man is always called men,
Why shouldn't the plural of pan be called pen?
If I speak of my foot and show you my feet,
And I give you a boot, would a pair be called beet?
If one is a tooth and a whole set are teeth,
Why shouldn't the plural of booth be called beeth?

Then one may be that, and three would be those,
Yet hat in the plural would never be hose,
And the plural of cat is cats, not cose.
We speak of a brother and also of brethren,
But though we say mother, we never say methren.
Then the masculine pronouns are he, his and him,
But imagine the feminine: she, shis and shim!

Let's face it - English is a crazy language.
    There is no egg in eggplant nor ham in hamburger;
neither apple nor pine in pineapple.
English muffins weren't invented in England.
We take English for granted, but if we explore its paradoxes, we find
that quicksand can work slowly, boxing rings are square, and a guinea
pig is neither from Guinea nor is it a pig.

  13. I have all of the Alex Rider series where a teenage boy is turned into a spy for MI6 and saves the world on numerous times. But my favourite one is Scorpia where he finds out more about his parents and uncle's deaths and then decides to betray MI6 only to betray Scorpia. But if you do read the series start with the first book Stormbreaker a Blockbuster film.

  14. Have you ever read the series of the Boys Books. I recommend everyone to read it because it is loaded with lots of laughter as well as tricks on people and how to be the best at everything !

One of the best things that I like is that how to do the shoebox trick !

In the shoebox trick you put weird, yucky objects inside the box and make family or friends pick a box and touch the objects.

The other thing I liked was how to beat of a alligator !!!

You have to hold its mouth open and put something solid between it's jaws and then run of .

If you read this series you will be loaded tricks to fool your friends.

So far it is about Kaiina who is walking down a market street and finds an old women called Prana who is encouraging Kaiina to say hello to Dinesh one of the great beasts of Erdas. The creature's expression softened as kaiina hand's were trembling as she leaned in close so their faces were nearly touching each other.
I would recommend this to you because it is a really interesting story about people who have spirit animals.
